TAMPA - A woman shot herself to death inside an Ybor City record store Friday evening, police said.
Shortly after 6 p.m., the woman walked into the business called Hot Wax, 1524 E Seventh Ave., to speak with an employee who police described as one of her good friends.
Tampa police Cpl. Jared Douds said the two of them had a conversation that seemed "relatively normal."
The woman placed a letter and a bag containing several wrapped gifts on the counter, Douds said.
She then walked toward the front of the store and fatally shot herself.
A bullet shattered the glass in the business' front door.
The only other person in the shop at the time was the employee she'd come to visit. He was uninjured.
Police did not identify the woman, pending notification of her family. Douds said she was white, and about 45 years old.
He said the letter she left behind was essentially a suicide note.
The 1500 block of Seventh Avenue was closed to traffic for a while, and the store - which sells pipes, hookahs, CDs and records - was cordoned off with police tape while investigators worked the scene.
