VALRICO - Brandon extended its 32-year consecutive win streak to 440 Friday night with 65-6 win over Bloomingdale, one of the county's better teams.

Phil Uno, one of the few Eagles seniors, started his match with a pin over Keith Mooney at 215 pounds. From there the Eagles won nine straight, for a 47-0 lead.

Brandon put the win in the books with Kevin Timothy's decision at 135. The team's 42 points put the match out of reach for the Bulls. Chris Figari broke the string of Eagles' wins with a 4-3 decision over Wally Figaro for the first Bulls' victory.

"We have a lot of new members on our team, many very young," Uno said. "They all have the talent, but they need to gain the confidence. We will all learn from this match and improve."

Bulls coach Donnie Peek thought his wrestlers should have won a few more matches, but was not disappointed.

"Now we know where we have to work," Peek said. "We have plenty of wiggle room to get better. Alonso is our next tough match. They have a pretty good team."

Brandon scored nine pins and a technical fall in the win.

Recording pins for the Eagles were Sean Padgett (103), Terry Dawson (112), Ty Jones (119), Nick Hutchinson (125), Eric Grajales (130), Mike Ettore (152), Robert Hoelzer (189), Zaq Berridge (160) and Uno. Joey Cozart (140) scored the technical fall with a 17-1 win.

Cozart and Grajales are defending state champions.

"We are going to have to work harder to improve," Grajales said. "Some of our guys gassed out and gave up easy moves. They will get better."
