Event aims for acceptance for transgendered

CLEARWATER

Fired Largo city manager Susan Stanton, Emmy award-winning musician Faith Rivera, Nadine Smith from Equality Florida and clergy from four congregations will take part in a transgender day of remembrance service at 7 p.m. Monday at Unity Church of Clearwater, 2465 Nursery Road. The service will remember those killed because of transgender hatred or prejudice, express a commitment to the worth and dignity of every person and encourage people to say no to discrimination and practice acceptance and understanding of all people.

EAST LAKE

Official will speak on local issues

Commissioner Susan Latvala will speak with the Council of North County Neighborhoods at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Crescent Oaks Country Club, 3300 Crescent Oaks Blvd. The country club is in the Crescent Oaks subdivision on East Lake Road north of Keystone Road. Topics to be covered include flooding in the Tarpon Woods subdivision, a county ordinance to protect parks and preserves, building ballfields, the schedule for widening Tarpon Avenue and a proposal to incorporate in north county. It's time to drop off toys for children

The East Lake Community Library, 4125 East Lake Road, is collecting for Toys for Tots through Dec. 12. Drop off new, unwrapped toys for children from newborn to 13. Drop-off hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Call (727) 773-2665.

Even if it's cold, the Tampa Bay Water Ski Show team will perform in a holiday show at 4 p.m. Saturday on Tower Lake. It's their last show of the season. Parking will be free, and there's a covered grandstand area with bleachers. Concessions will be sold. Here's your chance to be a model

Know someone who would make a great model? The Palm Harbor Library, 2330 Nebraska Ave., is offering a free modeling workshop from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday for girls 13 to 18. Professional model, actress and author Ro Martinez will teach the basics of the business, poise and how to walk on a runway. One girl will win a 30-day career guidance workshop with Martinez.
