Spring Hill Regional Hospital had its first service awards banquet Nov. 6, honoring those who have given many years of service to the hospital, including Sheila Rosser, honored for 35 years. She received a 35-year award pin and gift. Honored for 30 years of service were Kay Norris and Mamie Fagin. From left are Steve Beard, lab director, Rosser, and Jason Roeback, CEO.

The Hernando Endoscopy & Surgery Center, 12180 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill, recently conducted an in-service session for its clinical staff on the topic of reducing medication errors.
Neal M. Davis and Michael R. Cowen of the Institute of Safe Medication Practices presented the session, which was provided to clinical staff in compliance with the recommendation of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. For information, call 596-4999.

Awards were presented at the Hernando Builders Association's installation and awards banquet Nov. 2.
The builder of the year award went to Pastore Custom Builders. The associate member of the year was presented to Patricia Goble of SunTrust Mortgage. The volunteer of the year award went to Gena Hunt-Walters of Countrywide Home Loans.
The remodeler of the year award was presented to Dudley Hampton Jr. of BJH Construction General Contractors Inc. The government liaison award went to Len Tria for outstanding service. The president's award and the "On the Level" radio show moderator of the year award were presented to Doug Adrian, 2006-07 president of Vision Construction & Development.

Stephanie Henchey and Velvet Baxley, shown holding a check, owners of Horizon Homecare in Spring Hill, recently donated $500 to support the American Cancer Society. The presentation was part of the annual Hernando Cattlemen's Association Rodeo and done in connection with Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Horizon Homecare employees and family wore their "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" T-shirts and bandanas in support of the event.

On Nov. 6, Oak Hill Hospital hosted a presentation on Community Acquired Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureusfor 50 key personnel of the Hernando County School District.
The presentation was coordinated by Oak Hill's infection control nurse, Christine Piacquaddio. It was co-hosted with the Hernando County Health Department, with guest speakers Roger Sanderson, epidemiologist for the Florida Department of Health, and Fran Monforti, nurse epidemiologist with the Hernando County Health Department.
Other speakers included Mickey Smith, chief executive of Oak Hill Hospital.

As a member of the board of directors of the National Independent Private Schools Association, Domenick Maglio, owner and director of Wider Horizons School in Spring Hill, visited the Center Academy in Pinellas County as part of an accrediting team for the school.
Center Academy is applying for accreditation by NIPSA. Maglio travels throughout the country visiting private, independent schools as a member of association's accreditation committee.

Linda Kurman was recently appointed nursing supervisor for the day shift at Oak Hill Hospital, 11375 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill.
Kurman is a graduate of New York City Community College. She began her career as a registered nurse at a Brooklyn, N.Y., hospital and moved to Florida in 1989, when she began working at Oak Hill. She returned to New York for a short while, but returned to Oak Hill when she came back to Florida.
Before her latest promotion, Kurman had been charge nurse on the telemetry floor. She is certified in advanced cardiac life support and critical care, and she is a skin care specialist. She is also a graduate of Oak Hill's first "ambassador" class.
