TAMPA - Jackie Loto, one of Tampa's most enduring choreographers who taught generations to dance and perform, died Saturday (Nov. 17, 2007) of natural causes. She was 68. Ms. Loto, who trained with noted New York City jazz instructor Luigi, started teaching at 16 and founded Jackie's Dance Studio in 1959. Thousands of students came to call her "Miss Jackie." Some went on to perform in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, with Disney and on TV. Family members will hold services for Ms. Loto on Tuesday at JGR Funeral Home, 6718 N Armenia Ave. The viewing begins at noon and a service starts at 3 p.m. A burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Cemetery, 3412 Ola Ave.

She taught gymnastics to my son, and we were at Jackie's quite often for my niece's classes. Jackie knew how to put on a great show, and she was a wonderful person. She will be greatly missed.

Miss Jackie and her studio introduced my daughter to dance at age 6 and she has loved it ever since. She is now 14 years old and will always remember the experience of dancing at Jackie's Studio. God speed to you Jackie. Thanks.

I miss you so much, Ms. Jackie. You opened the door to dance for me at 3 years old and because of you I am still dancing here in Canada....your voice lives in my heart and I will always love you....

The stage is dark
The music has stopped
And even though the curtain has closed
On this show
It will rise again
In another place
For a different audience
Who will love you as we did!
Your work lives on in us.
Encore - Miss Jackie
