Sheriff namedto drug task force

Gov. Charlie Crist has appointed Pasco Sheriff Bob White to the statewide Task Force for the Remediation of Illicit Drug Labs, which will advise the governor on how to make buildings that once housed meth labs less hazardous. White's application to the task force sparked some controversy after the Fraternal Order of Police, which represents Pasco County's unionized deputies, urged Crist in September not to appoint White. Union officials said they doubted the sheriff's judgment because they said he had been disingenuous in contract negotiations with deputies. The only other sheriff to apply was Ben Johnson of Volusia County.
