ORLANDO - A man was arrested after a 1-year-old girl was shot in an Orlando-area apartment, authorities said.

Adam Fountain, 24, was one of two men inside the home where Janiah Thorne was shot in the upper torso Thursday, Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jeff Williamson said.

Fountain later told deputies the shooting was an accident, but he did not elaborate, Williamson said. Investigators are trying to determine if he was the gunman.

The girl was last reported in serious condition at an area hospital. Sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons said Sunday he didn't know if her condition has changed. The hospital declined to release any information.

The girl's mother, Tameka Rucker, said she was napping in a bedroom when she woke to a loud bang and found the little girl bleeding on the floor, the Sheriff's Office said.

Fountain, who is Rucker's ex-boyfriend, and the other man fled. Fountain was arrested Friday. The other man is still being sought.
