City manager choice no. 1 backs out

PORT RICHEY The search for a city manager continues in the little city by the river after the top candidate turned down the job Monday. John Schneiger, former community development director in Palm Coast, told James Mathieu, city manager and city attorney, that he was considering a job offer in Jacksonville, where he lives. Schneiger was the top choice among a short list of four candidates. Mathieu said that during its meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, the council will discuss offering the job to its second choice, B. Roger Pulley of Englewood, who does local government consulting. HUDSON Beach advisory warns about water If you're planning to spend a day at Hudson Beach, you may want to stay out of the water. Health officials issued a water advisory Monday for the beach, formally known as Robert J. Strickland Beach, after finding high levels of fecal bacteria in the water. The bacteria inhabit the intestinal tracts of humans and animals; exposure can cause disease, infections or rashes. The water poses "a potential health risk," the Health Department said.
