They came out for a ball game
By JERR MILLER, West Pasco Historical Society.
Published November 20, 2007
This is a view of Main Street in New Port Richey on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 3, 1926. The people on the sidewalk and sitting on their cars were there to follow Game 2 of the 1926 World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees. A scoreboard with a baseball diamond can be seen in the photo. It was set up next to the Swafford Building (later the Chasco Inn Building) by Charles W. Reed, the proprietor of the Hub, a billiard parlor in the Swafford Building. Details on the progress of the games were received by telegraph. It's uncertain whether local residents could have heard the daytime game on the radio.
