Today's Letters: Results nothing to be pleased with

Re: Road revamp drives problems Oct. 25 story
Not in 50 years have I responded to an article, but when I read assistant Hernando County engineer Gregg Sutton is "pleased" with the results, and referenced safety reasons, I almost fell out of my chair.
The construction is done and we will live with the results. I don't know how often he travels through that intersection, however, but when a 19-year-old girl tells you a 43-old-man backed into her car at "4 corners," you have to wonder.
Then, three times in the next week, I saw it. People traveling east on Spring Hill Drive try to make the U-turn where they used to at the light at Mariner Boulevard and, lo and behold, they can't make it; their car is too long, so they quickly throw it into reverse, turn the wheel and just back up. The car behind them is still making its left turn, and the rest is history.
They have cameras on top of each traffic signal, but not one "No U Turn" sign anywhere.
P.S. That 19-year-old girl was telling the truth; I have the police report.

Fancy car makes a poor deterrent
The Pasco Sheriff's Office should be discouraged, not encouraged, to put a convicted drug dealer's show-off 1967 Chevy Impala on the streets or brought to schools.
Some kids will see it as a symbol of "What I can have," if I deal drugs rather than "What will be taken from me?" Some years ago the Sheriff's Office tried to do this with a Corvette taken in a drug raid. Taking it on tour gave the same impression to the kids and it was quickly taken off the street. Let's not go through that again with the Impala.

Looking for news of the 'Walker'
We are just two of many Hernando County residents who were touched by the tragic ordeal of the "Walker," John Kelly. We have been looking every day for some news to let us know how he is doing. The last we heard is the doctors told him when he got a little better he would be able to come to a Hernando County hospital. We would like to know how he is doing.
We miss seeing him walking along U.S. 19 and State Road 50. He would make us smile when he would wave back to us. And we would like for him to know our hearts go out to him and his family, and we hope he has a speedy recovery.
We also would like to say to those inhumane punks that we hope they get what is coming to them. They don't deserve to be back in society. Keep them locked up. We think they should have to pay for Mr. Kelly's medical bills, along with his bills he had at home that he isn't able to pay due to being in the hospital. They also should pay for the suffering and anguish they put him and his family through.

Editor's note: The family of John Kelly told the Times last week that John is recuperating from his injuries, and they thank the community for the concern shown to John.

No reason to shake things up
A Republican guardian of our votes and the trustee of our local democracy? Get real! Let's not ruin the good thing we have now.

Insurance bill is finally reasonable
Recently I opened my Citizens Property Insurance bill hoping to see a significant reduction in my annual premium. If I told you that day felt like Christmas, you would know the smile that went across my face.
Last year our insurance bill skyrocketed to more than $6,000. I called my insurance agent, who worked with me to increase my deductible and dropped full replacement value. This brought my premium down to $4,400. This year I took advantage of opting out of the sinkhole coverage, and my new premium is a very affordable $1,700.
I would like to thank state Sen. Mike Fasano for all the hard work he did to reform our homeowners insurance crisis.
Excellent job, Sen. Fasano; keep up the good work.

Unfortunately, if you have a mortgage, you are FORCED to have homeowners insurance! I can no longer afford even a modest priced home and I am a working professional. So much for the American dream.

Wow, why have insurance if your coverage stinks? How about if your house falls in a sinkhole? You are left with nothing, but a mortgage payment, insurance payment, and no home to live in! Where do I sign up? Thank God I left the area 13 yrs ago!

Fasano? Ha!! Wait till you get a sinkhole buddy and see how happy you are. Fasano is bought and sold by insurance companies, they are the ones who wanted to drop sinkhole!
