Golf results
The 2007 Sheriff's Golf Classic is expected to break last year's record of raising more than $55,000 in gross receipts for the 29th annual tournament. This was the second year the golf tournament was conducted on both north and south golf courses of Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club near Dade City. This year's tournament boasted 47 teams for a total of 186 golfers.
Captain Mike Ferrantelli, who works at the Land O'Lakes Detention Center and whose team was sponsored by Nestle Waters/Zephyrhills Water, took home a first-place trophy for the fourth year in a row with a top score of 55 on the south golf course. Kurt Rhodes, Gary Pressure and Dan Johnson made up the rest of the first-place south squad.
The Southernstone/Suncoast Cabinets Team scored 52 to take first on the North Course. The team was made up of Dave Baccari, Brett King, Matt Isel and Tony Baccari.
Proceeds from the Sheriff's Golf Classic will go to the West Pasco Boys and Girls Club, as well as a number of other sheriff's-sponsored youth charities.
Belles & Beaus: Art Hass, Ken Yeaton and Ginny Hilton made up the team that scored the lowest score 51 during last Wednesday's league play at the Quarry Golf Course in Brooksville. Rick Hilton was the closest to the pin No. 3 for the men.
The league is held every Wednesday from 8:45 a.m. to noon. The cost is $10 for members and $20 for nonmembers, which includes lunch and prizes. The cost also includes 18 holes of golf with a cart in the scramble format-blind draw league. Call (352) 544-5485 for information.
