PALM HARBOR Donate a present for abuse victims Visit the Palm Harbor Library to make the holiday a little brighter for victims of domestic abuse. In the library lobby is a giving tree that is covered with paper ornaments holding children's wish lists. All gifts will be donated to the Haven of Religious Community Services. OLDSMAR/ SAFETY HARBOR Mayor's Breakfast to benefit needy City and chamber of commerce officials from Oldsmar and Safety Harbor are hosting the Mayor's Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 10 at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa, 105 N Bayshore Drive. The breakfast raises funds to provide basic needs, meals and gifts for needy families in both communities. Tickets are $25 and table sponsorships are $250. Also, you can donate new, unwrapped toys for needy children or a decorated holiday tree to be raffled off at the breakfast. Proceeds and gifts are distributed through the Safety Harbor Neighborhood Family Center and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office community policing unit. LARGO Florida Botanical Gardens turns on holiday display Get into the holiday mood with a stroll through the Florida Botanical Gardens' holiday light display starting Sunday. The Illuminated gardens will feature more than 425,000 festive holiday lights. The gardens are at 12520 Ulmerton Road. The display will be open to the public until 10 p.m. every night until Jan. 3. DUNEDIN Applicants needed for several city boards The city is accepting applications from Dunedin residents for the Board of Adjustment and Appeal, Building Board of Adjustment and Appeal, Committee on Environmental Quality, Local Planning Agency, Mobile Home Park Committee, Youth Advisory Committee and Public Relations Advisory Committee. CLEARWATER File for Life form helps organize seniors' data The city's Office on Aging, Clearwater Fire & Rescue and the Clearwater Police Department are offering seniors age 60 and older a File of Life form for important medical information. The information is placed in a magnetic envelope and stuck on a refrigerator door. An accompanying sticker is placed on or near the participant's front door to alert medical personnel that the File of Life is available. Should there be an emergency with no one to speak for the participant, rescue personnel can check the file for information needed to begin treatment. File of Life packets are free, but $1 donations are accepted. Photo sessions will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1 and 2, and Dec. 8 and 9. Wreaths will be made from fresh noble fir and accented with cedar, blue-berried juniper and ponderosa pine cones. Two sizes will be available for $30 and $40. Old Clearwater Bay home tours Dec. 1 The Old Clearwater Bay neighborhood Home & Garden Tour is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 1, with 14 homes and gardens decked out with floral designs and wine-tasting at the Clearwater Garden Club starting at noon. Still time to join city's holiday celebrations The city needs parade participants, exhibitors, and crafters to participate in Clearwater's holiday parade and downtown festival on Dec. 15. This year's celebration, which will be held during the day for the first time, will begin with a parade at 11 a.m. The route is on Cleveland Street, from Highland Avenue to Myrtle Avenue. The parade will feature numerous entries including marching bands, walking groups, krewes, floats, antique cars, clowns and an appearance by Santa Claus. The downtown festival, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Cleveland Street, will include carnival games, pony rides, make-and- take crafts and cookies, a rock-climbing wall, inflatable rides, face-painting and balloon animals, a juggler and stilt walker and a performance by the Clearwater High School Band. Scout troops, church and civic groups or businesses interested in taking part in the parade or exhibitors and crafters who want to be part of the downtown festival should call Amma Marfo at (727) 562-4828. Exhibitors and crafters pay $15, and they need to bring their own table. COUNTYWIDE Sign up to help collect for Tampa Bay Harvest Tampa Bay Harvest is an all-volunteer organization that collects food from restaurants, supermarkets and other sources to donate to food pantries and other local organizations that help feed the hungry. Volunteers are needed to transport food, help with coordinating and record-keeping, and assist with food-collecting events. Call 538-7777, ext. 1. Good at preparing taxes? You're needed The IRS/AARP TaxGuide program, which last year prepared more than 4,000 income tax returns for residents of North Pinellas, needs volunteers. The program helps low-income and elderly residents prepare their taxes free of charge. Volunteers receive training that leads to IRS/AARP certification. OLDSMAR Register your child for visit from Santa Santa and his elves will visit Oldsmar children in their homes the nights of Dec. 11-15 this year. To contact Santa, mail a 3- by 5-inch card with your family's name, address and daytime phone number to Oldsmar Fire Rescue, 225 Pine Ave. N, Oldsmar, FL 34677, or drop the card off at the station. After the date of the appointment is set, drop off a small present for each child at the station with the child's name and address and the date and time of Santa's visit written on the outside of the package. For groups of children, put labeled presents in a large garbage bag, then label the outside of the bag too.
