TARPON SPRINGS Deck the docks with boughs of sponges The public is invited to join in the holiday spirit from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks for the official lighting of the Sponge Christmas Tree. The 9-foot-tree, decorated with hundreds of sponges, will be on display through December on Dodecanese Boulevard at the west end of the Sponge Docks. Reggae artist Charles "Keith" Hurlock will entertain and lead the singing of Christmas carols. For more information, call (727) 946-2607 COUNTYWIDE Help children stay clothed and warm As the holidays approach, Clothes To Kids expects to provide a complete wardrobe to more than 60 children each day. The charity has a critical need for long pants for boys in sizes 4-18 and for girls in sizes 5-16. New or gently used, freshly laundered items may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1059 N Hercules Ave., Clearwater. COUNTYWIDE Keep your pet safe over the holidays Pinellas County Animal Services is offering advice to keep your pet safe during the Thanksgiving feast. - Scraps are unsafe for pets. Feed them their usual food and refrain from feeding table scraps. Even though Thanksgiving is once a year, the change in diet can lead not only to obesity but also to digestive problems. - Keep food covered and away from table edges. Keep your pets from temptation by keeping them out of the room during dinner. - Secure your trash. Keep your trash cans out of reach of your animals or take the garbage out right after you are finished eating to ensure that your animals don't jump inside the canister or knock it over to get to those juicy turkey bones. - Bones can kill. Cooked turkey, duck, goose and other bird bones are dangerous for your pet. They are hollow and break and splinter easily.
