Boys runner of the year

Christian Homme, Sr., Seminole

Why we picked him: Homme took over as Seminole's No. 1 this season. He didn't disappoint. The senior was always out in front leading a Warhawks express of five boys across the finish line.

Homme won conference, district and region titles going away. About the only thing missing was another top finish at state. Homme was ninth this year after finishing as the runnerup last season.

"I was disappointed with the way things ended," Homme said. "But overall, it was a great season."

Fun fact: Homme has a twin brother, Michael, who also ran cross country and was a top five scorer for the Warhawks.

What's next: Homme will run the Turkey Trot today. After that, he plans on narrowing his list of colleges.

Coach of the year

Bruce Calhoun, Seminole

The Warhawks lost Aaron Thomas, the Times runner of the year last season, to graduation. But they never lost a step. Calhoun filled in the missing pieces in Seminole's championship puzzle. The result was team titles at conference, district and region meets.

First team

Joe Cathey, Sr., Calvary Christian: He was the county's top runner until injuries derailed at the end.

Zach Christiansen, So., Countryside: Finished among top three at PCAC meet.

Josh Johnson, So., Indian Rocks Chr.: He won the Bay Conference meet and was a state qualifier.

Stephen Spanos, Jr., Shorecrest: The county's top place winner (24th) at Class A state meet.

Gabriel Ramos, Jr., Largo: He finished in the top five at the PCAC meet.

Wes Reynolds, Sr., St. Petersburg: The Green Devils top runner placed in top three at most meets.

Matt Adkins, Sr., Northeast: He came on in the postseason and qualified for states.
