[Rodrigo Sanchez | Special to the Times] A moment to reflect in Florence, Italy.
|
My wife and I always wanted to visit Tuscany because we're wine lovers. When we went in March, we stayed in a winery outside the city. It was the end of winter so it got kind of rainy in Florence. While my wife was busy one day, I strolled in the museum area of the city, wandering into one of the many alleys, which was pretty empty of tourists. Everywhere else, there were hordes of tourists. This was one of my few tourist-free experiences. I like the cobblestone streets and the reflection of the wet streets. The man seems to be a local. He's not wearing the tourist garb. He's not part of a group and he's carrying a briefcase. You can barely see his face. You can see his silhouette. It tells me a lot. He's probably thinking, "I'm going to take this street because all the others are full of tourists and traffic." When I look at the picture, I can feel the air and the street under my feet, and hear his footsteps. Rodrigo Sanchez of St. Petersburg as told to Fred. W.
