Opposing sidesin strike to meet again

Striking Broadway stagehands and theater producers will try again today to work out a deal to end their labor dispute that has darkened theaters for more than two weeks. The sides will meet at 10 a.m., Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of the League of American Theatres and Producers, said Tuesday. Local 1, the stagehands union, and the league have been through two marathon negotiating sessions in the past two days, the most recent ending Tuesday morning after an all-night meeting. Progress reportedly has been slow, though some headway apparently has been made. "Talks ended (Tuesday) at 7:30 a.m. without a deal after 13 hours of hard bargaining in what I can only describe as a 'rain delay' in the ninth inning of the seventh game of the World Series," union spokesman Bruce Cohen said. "The rainy weather should clear up when talks resume Wednesday."
