DUI checkpoint on Northcliffe set for tonight

COUNTYWIDE
The Hernando County Sheriff's Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI checkpoint 9 p.m. today to 1 a.m. Saturday on Northcliffe Boulevard near Portillo Road. Deputies will look for drivers suspected of driving under the influence. Zero tolerance is in effect; arrests will be made of anyone detected to be driving while impaired. Call Sgt. Special day for hospital at Sam's

Medicare workshop slated for today
U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite will host a Medicare workshop 9 to 11 a.m. today at the Spring Hill Enrichment Center, 11375 Cortez Blvd. (behind Oak Hill Hospital). The workshop will inform seniors about the open enrollment period for the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan and Medicare Advantage plans. Enrollment ends Dec. 31 for eligible seniors. SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) representatives will be on hand to help seniors enroll in the plan most appropriate for their needs. 799-8354.

Diabetes is topicof symposium
A free "Healthy Living with Diabetes" symposium will be 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Brooksville Elks Lodge, 14494 Cortez Blvd. Local experts will discuss managing blood sugar, medication management, nutrition, coping with diabetes and other topics. Toy Run to benefit Shriners Hospital

If it is state law, I don't understand the justification for it. And certainly the state law doesn't require it to be a leading news story.

It's state law that all DUI checkpoints must be made available to the general public in advance.Most of the time the announcemant is buried in the middle of the paper in very small print.Rest assured this checkpoint will still result in many arrests.

Giving advance notice of a DUI checkpoint, including exact time and location ? That's absurd. Who in the Sheriff's office was dumb enough to OK this press release ?

i think it's amazing that you tell everyone where the D.U.I checkpoint will be ..i just cant beleive it,,do you think drunks cant read, or something,,,why even set it up ...when your telling everyone to go around,,,weird,,,
