Mike Fasano will light the menorah for the holiday, which begins at sundown Tuesday and runs through Dec. 11. Admission is free to the event, which includes children's crafts, live music with the Mike Eisenstat Band, potato latkes , doughnuts, chocolate coins and dreidels. For information, visit www.chabadwp.com or call Rabbi Yossi Eber at (727) 376-3366.
Just call him Deputy Daniels
Pasco Sheriff Bob White made country singer Charlie Daniels an honorary deputy Thursday. Every year, Daniels puts on a benefit concert for The Angelus, a home in Hudson for people with severe developmental disabilities. He thanked White for the money the sheriff's charities have given to The Angelus - some $80,000 in the past two years. During a brief ceremony in a crowded conference room, Daniels thanked White and his staff for their work and treated them to a performance of Amazing Grace.
COUNTYWIDE
Advocates needed for elder residents
The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program of Pasco County needs volunteers to join its corps of advocates who protect the rights of elders residing in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult family care homes. If interested, call toll-free at 1-888-831-0404. A general open meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Dec. 13 at the New Port Richey Department of Children and Families Building, 7601 Little Road, Suite 100, New Port Richey.
Donate toys at your own mailbox
Don't forget on Saturday when you take out your mail to leave a new unwrapped toy beside the mailbox for a needy child. U.S. postal carriers across Pasco will collect the toys and distribute them to Toys for Tots, which will hand them out to children before Christmas. Toys for Tots is a nationwide program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Donations stay in local communities. For more information, visit www.toysfortotspasco.org or call (352) 588-4230 in east Pasco or (727) 847-4583 in west Pasco.
