Manchester, n.h. This weekend marks the first negative TV ads in the early-voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire, with a claim by a Republican group that supports abortion rights that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has flip-flopped on abortion. Analysts say similar negative ads are likely against his chief GOP rival, Rudy Giuliani, whose positions on gun control and immigration are markedly different from those he espoused as New York mayor. VIENNA, Va. Democrats unload, make pitches to DNC Democratic candidates faulted their own party as well as assailing Republicans as they pitched their candidacies to the staunchest of Democrats on Friday. Bill Richardson, John Edwards, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Dennis Kucinich addressed officials who make up the Democratic National Committee, their last opportunity to speak to such a gathering before the first presidential voting begins in January. Hillary Rodham Clinton was scheduled to speak but canceled after the hostage incident. -Richardson assailed the Democratic-controlled Congress for its failure to accomplish more and called on the party to win back people's confidence. -Edwards blamed Democrats as well as Republicans for isolating Washington from the rest of the country. -Obama called for tossing out past electoral strategies to embrace independents and disaffected Republicans. -Biden portrayed himself as the Democrat best able to withstand Republican criticism.
