Titans don't look so mighty now
Titans coach Jeff Fisher has to feel good about signing that big contract extension in September, especially considering how lousy his team has looked during a three-game losing streak. Vince Young is throwing the ball well, but the running game has disappeared, and the defense seems incapable of stopping anyone without injured defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, whose contact expires after the season. Three weeks ago, the Titans were a physical playoff contender. Now they're desperate for a win.
Does Cleveland really rock?
Hey, maybe Drew Careyis right. For sports fans, at least, Cleveland rocks this year. In June, the Cavaliers made it to the NBA Finals. In October, the Indians reached the American League Championship Series. And if the playoffs started today, the Browns would be an AFC wild-card team.
Plummer sure seems to be happy
The Bucs could use this guy today, but according to a recent profile in the Rocky Mountain News (Denver), former quarterback Jake Plummer does not regret his retirement decision. According to friends quoted in the article, Plummer travels, skis, goes to concerts, boats, backpacks, plays in handball tournaments and has even dabbled in Ultimate Frisbee. He lives in Sandpoint, Idaho, much of the time, about an hour south of the Canadian border. "Other than Jimmy Buffett and Adam Sandler, I don't know anybody that has a better life than him," longtime friend Doug Tammaro told the newspaper.
Who's hot
QB Aaron Rodgers, Packers
Watching Brett Favre stand on the sideline with an elbow injury took much of the fun out of Thursday's NFC showdown between the Packers and Cowboys. But for the first time, Cheeseheads can feel good about the possibility of football after Favre based on Rodgers' crisp performance.
Who's cold
DE Simeon Rice
Released after two weeks by the Colts, Rice is one of two things: Hampered by the shoulder that required surgery last season or no longer one of the game's best pass rushers. If former coach Tony Dungy has given up on him, chances are it's the latter.
