Anniversaries

The Donaldsons

George and Betty Donaldson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends at the Wine Cellar. They were married Nov. 22, 1947, at Northwestern Baptist Church, Detroit, and came here in 1976 from Syracuse, N.Y.

Mrs. Donaldson was a homemaker. Mr. Donaldson was a structural engineer for Florida Steel and an Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

They are 30-year members of Seminole First Baptist Church, where he is a deacon and she is a librarian, and volunteer for D&D Missionary Homes, Interfaith Food Pantry and Bay Area Pregnancy Center. They have two sons, and three grandchildren.

The Frains

Jim and Kay Frain celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise Nov. 18-25. They were married Oct. 12, 1957, in Rockaway Beach, N.Y., and came here in 1976 from Valley Stream, N.Y.

Mrs. Frain retired as a registered nurse from Bay Pines VA Medical Center. Mr. Frain retired as public works director for the city of South Pasadena. He was an Army veteran.

They have five children and 11 grandchildren.

The Hoopers

James and Gloria Hooper celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November with a family dinner at Sam Seltzer's Steakhouse. They were married Nov. 16, 1957, at Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Blasdell, N.Y., and came here in 1973 from Hamburg, N.Y.

Mrs. Hooper was a cosmetologist. Mr. Hooper was a foreman for Pinellas County Schools' transportation system for 30 years. They are members of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and have four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Giovos

Jay and Barbara Giovo celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with a Mass at Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Gulfport. They were married Oct. 15, 1952, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Mexico, N.Y., and moved to Gulfport in 1959.

Mrs. Giovo retired from the Insurance Group in 1995. Mr. Giovo retired 14 years ago from Eckerds, Donnell & Wickes Lumber, where he worked in sales. He served in the Air Force and was stationed at the Pentagon during the Korean War.

They have four sons, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Longs

Curtiss L. and Alice W. Long celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 2, 2007, with a renewal of their wedding vows at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. They were high school sweethearts and were married Sept. 15, 1957, in Chandler, Okla. They came here in 1987 from Atlanta.

Mrs. Long worked in child development and is a certified nursing assistant. The Rev. Long is the pastor at New Faith Free Methodist Church. He has been a pastor for 48 years and worked at the St. Petersburg Times for more than 19 years.

They have four children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
