Telling tales

Tell me a story! Who doesn't enjoy a good yarn? It's fun for the teller and the listener, and has been that way since people sat around fires in caves. The Tampa Bay Storytellers' Guild, founded in 1994, is dedicated to preserving the art. The group's 12th annual "Tellabration!" drew about 80 people to the Pinellas Park Public Library on Nov. 17. The event was dedicated to the memory of Chuck Larkin, a singer, humorist, storyteller and teacher of storytelling techniques. Raconteurs as young as 9 shared tales that ran the gamut, from the life of St. Francis of Assisi to an Indian folktale to Three Billy Goats Gruff. Interpreters translated the stories into American Sign Language. The guild meets every third Sunday of the month. For information call Bettylou Rosen at 785-3041.
