Volunteers sought to clean along parkway

CLEARWATER

The City of Clearwater's Parks and Recreation Department needs volunteers to help clean the Courtney Campbell Parkway from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 8. The focus of the project will be the Pinellas County service roads on both sides of the road. Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and bring a pair of gardening gloves. City staff will provide tools, supplies and water. Volunteers will remove trash and debris and trim back the brush. Help the kids, have some chocolate

Indulge your chocoholic fantasies at the Largo Rotary Club's 12th annual Death by Chocolate Friday. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive. The fundraising event will help the children of Largo. The event has helped the Rotary Club raise more than $230,000 in the past 11 years. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Scouts, take a shot at merit badges

Attention, Boy Scouts: Brooker Creek Preserve is offering scouts a chance to earn either the archaeology or the soil and water conservation merit badges. The two sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 15 at Brooker Creek Preserve, 3940 Keystone Road. Preserve staff will lead activities designed to help scouts meet the requirements of either badge. The sessions are recommended for boys 11 to 17, and scouts must be accompanied by an adult or scout leader. The cost is $5. To register, call (727) 453-6800.

Forecast includes snow, ice and fun

For a little of the north country in North Pinellas, visit Oldsmar's Christmas Wonderland from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at R.E. Olds Park, 107 Shore Drive W. Slip, slide or sled down slopes of snowy ice. Ride a pony, bounce on inflatables or get your photo taken with Santa. Miss Suda's Dancers will perform The Grinch at 6 p.m. and the Hammerhead Dulcimers will play old-time holiday music from 7 to 8 p.m. Admission and parking will be free. Bring a chair or blanket. Learn all about woodland creatures and the wonderful things that nature provides in the forest at this free program from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Pinellas County Extension and Florida Botanical Gardens, 12520 Ulmerton Road.
