Fasano denounces landfill plan Nov. 29 story
I would have hoped Sen. Mike Fasano would have taken the time to meet with us or the state of Florida regulators to learn the facts about our proposed composting and recycling facility before deciding to oppose it. Unfortunately he did not. Had he taken the time, he would have learned that our plan is better for the environment and better for our taxpayers. Our facility would be located adjacent to the county's own East Pasco landfill, a portion of which is unlined and which never appeared to be a concern.
Comments in the article referring to burying garbage illustrate a misunderstanding of our state-of-the-art facility, which is similar to the brand new Polk County facility that sits on the bank of Lake Hancock. We will be constructing a recycling facility for all metals and plastics and remove them from the waste stream. The remaining garbage will be put into cells which are surrounded with a double barrier layer of flexible composite material and that will be backed up by 5 feet of clay. The trash then goes through an accelerated composting process with the gases, primarily methane, being collected and turned into green energy. The materials within the lined cell are rendered into reusable compost, removed and the process begins again.
Most important, the cost to the county is nothing and we will charge half of what it now pays for disposal. Also, we have offered to take the garbage from the county's neighboring unlined landfill and recycle and compost it. Now that is environmentally friendly. Take time to learn more at www.compostandrecycle.com.

Constituents need to be heeded
I want to thank Sen. Fasano for caring about the people in Pasco County. In the state Senate, I am represented by a man who visits Pasco County twice a year. When I met Victor Crist recently, I asked him why I never heard from him, he said I didn't live in his district.
Shows how much he knows. On my voting card it clearly shows I am in Florida Senate District 12. Having that fact established, he said that Sen. Fasano gets nervous if he (Crist) gets too close to the line.
I don't care if I live on the line, if Crist is my senator then I want to hear from him.
God bless Sen. Fasano who keeps me informed as to what is going on in Tallahassee and for caring for all of us even if we are not his constituents.

Cable companiesdumbing us down
A few days ago a salesman from Verizon dropped off a brochure for their television offerings. It cost pretty much the same as by Bright House service and offered about the same channels. (No competition there.)
If I was into bowling, buying jewelry, video games, boxing, wrestling, car racing and such, I would be ecstatic. They have a large selection in those areas. Lots of sports and a plethora of police/crime shows.
On any given day I can watch women being murdered in every conceivable way imaginable. After a few hours of that I have to switch to the cartoon channel. At least the violence there is surreal and comical.
What's my problem? Simply this: I can remember when, in the early days of cable, there were excellent arts and entertainment channels. They have all but disappeared. Except for PBS, there is only one, PET-Ch. 20 from Pasco.
If Bright House and Verizon are trying to dumb down America, they're doing a bang up job.

Don't forget Brighthouse inserting commercials in place of the networks. Violence seems to be popular. Information is getting scarce.
