Community services has interim leader

DUNEDIN

Dunedin Zoning Administrator Matthew Campbell has been named the city's new interim director of the Community Services Department. Campbell will assume the duties of retiring director Kevin Campbell (no relation), who will be working on several special projects during the next month. Matthew Campbell will oversee the Community Services Department, which handles code enforcement, permits, development projects, licensing and municipal planning, while a search is conducted for a permanent director.

CLEARWATER

Students to teach how to be green

A University of South Florida graduate-level environmental class will present recommendations to the City Council on how Clearwater can become more "green-friendly" and sustainable. The presentation will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, City Hall Chambers, 112 S. Osceola Ave. The students used the city of Clearwater's environmental practices and sustainability as a case study for their graduate-level course. The presentation at the City Council meeting will be broadcast live on C-View TV and can also be accessed using the streaming video feature of the city's Web site, www.MyClearwater.com. Sign up for phone emergency alerts

The city of Safety Harbor is now offering the CodeRed Emergency Telephone Calling Service to keep its residents informed during emergencies. CodeRed uses an Internet mapping system to geographically target residents and place computerized phone calls in the event of an emergency, such as a hurricane or fire. Residents who are interested in signing up for the service have to register their phone number with the Safety Harbor Fire Department by visiting the department's home page at www.cityofsafetyharbor.com/index.asp?nid=45. CLEARWATER

Plumb House tour hours change

The Clearwater Historical Society has announced new tour hours for the Historic Plumb House, 1380 S Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. Free tours will be available from 8:30 to 11 a.m. on the first and third Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday during the month of December. The Plumb House is the home of Clearwater's first public school teacher, for whom Plumb Elementary School is named. The residence is an original Cracker-style house built in 1896.
