TAMPA - The on again, off again relationship between baseball player Elijah Dukes' estranged wife and her divorce attorney is once again off.

Catherine Real has been representing NiShea Gilbert in her divorce from Dukes, the Tampa Bay Rays outfielder recently traded to the Washington Nationals.

But Real said Wednesday that Gilbert no longer wants her services. She'd rather hash out the rest of thecase with a mediator instead of a lawyer, Real said.

Real plans to ask the court for permission to formally withdraw from the case.

It won't be the first time.

She previously filed a motion with Hillsborough Circuit Judge J. Kevin Carey to withdraw.

Real asked the judge to grant it in October when she disagreed with Carey's ruling to allow an unsupervised weekend visit between Dukes and the two children he has with Gilbert.

At the next hearing in the case, though, Real showed up.

She said afterward that Gilbert asked her to reconsider. Real obliged, she said, because Gilbert was a nice person.
