Wolfe invited to MLS combine
Major League Soccer hasn't officially announced the participants in its 2008 scouting combine, but former Ridgewood star Tanner Wolfe has been formally invited, Rams coach Ed McComiskey said. A two-time first-team all-Pasco County player with the Rams, Wolfe has spent the past four seasons at Stetson. This year, he finished tied for second in the Atlantic Sun Conference with 23 points. MLS has not announced an official date for the combine, which features four teams of college prospects that compete against each other.
Pasco blanked Hernando in boys soccer Wednesday 8-0. Perhaps more significant was the onslaught of offensive power. The Pirates outshot the Leopards 36-3, highlighted by senior Jose Montelongo's five goals, including one from 40 yards out.
"It went in like a rocket," Pasco coach Barry Grayling said.
Montelongo scored five goals in a game two seasons ago. He might have topped that Wednesday, but Grayling took out his prized player with more than 10 minutes remaining.
Zephyrhills' boys soccer team has had trouble finishing. The result: one win, a forfeit by Gulf. Adding salt to the wound was a 1-all ending against Sunlake on Wednesday. The Bulldogs led most of the game until Sunlake was awarded a penalty kick in the final minute for what Zephyrhills coach Wade Cutler called "an incidental trip." Zephyrhills outshot the Seahawks 23-3 but couldn't come away with the win. Now he's hoping for improvement.
"I feel like my team looks at me as though they can win any game," Cutler said. "I'm expecting it to happen in the second half."
