Zephyrhills looks at retail development

ZEPHYRHILLS - A new retail shopping center and office complex is slated for discussion at tonight's Zephyrhills City Council meeting.
The 350,000-square-foot shopping center, tentatively called Zephyr Commons, could bring a grocery store, bank, restaurant and various other stores.
A 120,000-square-foot office building is also planned for nearby.
Council members are set to discuss the next phase of this project's development: the preliminary platting process.
Also, a report is scheduled from the council's planning commission regarding Nestle Water North America's petition to rezone 6.8 acres of land for expansion.
The land is now zoned as residential. But Nestle is petitioning for an industrial zoning. A few Zephyrhills residents had opposed that idea.
At the last council meeting, officials agreed they needed more information about Nestle's rezoning petition. So, a presentation is planned for today.
In other business, the council is also scheduled to discuss the city's skate park. A local downtown business owner wants to lease the skate park and open an arcade and a pro shop on the property, according to a city memo.
But, because the skate park is a public park, various details must be worked out.
