Brown selected to all-century team

Former Hernando star Jerome Brown was named to the Florida High School Athletic Association's all-century football team as part of the organization's celebration of "100 Years of Florida High School Football." He was one of 33 players selected by position.

The 1982 graduate was a star defensive lineman, an All-American at Miami and went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1987-91, where he became an All-Pro while notching 291/2 career sacks during five seasons in the NFL.

Brown was killed in June 1992 in a car accident. The team will be honored during halftime of Friday's Class 5A state title game at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Nature Coast visits Central tonight in the first of two boys basketball meetings this season. The Sharks are off to a 3-3 start after a 42-31 win against Sunlake on Tuesday night, thanks to a team-high 20 points from Joe Silvestri. He is averaging 17.3 points. The Bears are coming off a 43-34 win Tuesday against rival Hernando and got 17 points from Darryn Frazier, right, who averages 21.6 points. Central is 2-5.
