Plant nursery closing for the holidays

SPRING HILL
The Spring Hill Garden Club's plant nursery will be closed for the holidays starting Dec. 22 and will reopen Jan. 7. The nursery is at 1489 Parker Ave.
The adjacent Nature Coast Botanical Gardens will remain open during daylight hours and celebrate its Holiday in the Gardens through early January.
Holiday in the Gardens includes decorated evergreens lining the main walkway, and in other areas of the gardens. The garden railroad is also decorated. Trees can still be purchased for $50 and decorated through Dec. 24, when there will be a contest for the best-decorated tree.

SPRING HILL
CPR for health care providers offered
A CPR for the Professional Health Care Provider class will be offered at 6 p.m. Jan. 17 and a First Aid class at 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Spring Hill Enrichment Center, 11375 Cortez Blvd., behind Oak Hill Hospital.
Both courses are certified by the American Heart Association and the American Safety and Health Institute. The instructor for both will be Bob Kanner.
The cost is $20 per class. Seating is limited. For information or to register, call 597-8875 the registration office will be closed Dec. 21-Jan. 2.
BROOKSVILLE/SPRING HILL
Volunteer to visit patients at hospice
Hernando-Pasco Hospice is in need of volunteers and will provide an orientation in Brooksville and another in Spring Hill.
Volunteers 16 and older are needed to visit patients in the eastern part of Hernando county at private residences, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and at the agency's Hospice Care Center in downtown Brooksville.
A two-part orientation for prospective volunteers will be provided from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 16 and 18 at the Brooksville team office at 698 S Broad St. Those interested can call Anne Clarke at 796-2611.
Also, the Spring Hill team needs volunteers in the Hospice House on Cortez Boulevard to visit patients and prepare meals for residents several times a week. Volunteer cooks must be 18 or older.

'Drop and Shop' with Girl Scouts on Dec. 22
The Spring Mermaids Girl Scout Senior Troop 989 of the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida will host a "Drop and Shop" from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 22 at Fellowship Community Church, 11250 Spring Hill Drive.
Children ages 4-12 can be dropped off so parents can Christmas shop. The troop will provide games, activities, crafts and movies. Each child will be given two snacks.
The scouts and adults providing the event are all certified in CPR and First Aid.
The cost is $20 per child and emergency health forms will be collected at the door. Children should bring a bagged lunch.

Pet pageant part of adoption campaign
Hernando County is recognizing December as "Home 4 the Holidays" month.
Hernando County Animal Services is joining the SPCA of Hernando County and Humane Society of the Nature Coast to participate in the Home 4 the Holidays worldwide pet adoption campaign. The goal is to find lifelong homes for the homeless pets in the county.
The Home 4 the Holidays Pet Pageant is airing throughout the month on Hernando County Government Broadcasting, Bright House cable Ch. 19. The pageant features various pets from the local shelters who need loving homes.
Those interested are also encouraged to visit one of the shelters:

Apply now for wealth of classes at institute
Withlacoochee Technical Institute is accepting applications for classes set to begin Jan. 22.
Classes include administrative assistant; air conditioning, refrigeration and heating technology; automotive collision repair and refinishing; automotive services technology; carpentry; commercial foods and culinary arts; computer systems technology; early childhood education; electricity; marine service technology; medical administrative specialist; and applied welding technology.
Applications are also being accepted for a patient care assistant program, which is scheduled to begin March 3.
The school is at 1201 W Main St. All classes meet from 7:15 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. weekdays. For fees, program lengths, registration and other information, call (352) 726-2430.

Hospice will benefit from fashion show
Tickets are on sale for Fine Lines Boutique's third annual fashion show to benefit Hernando-Pasco Hospice. The show will be from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 1 at the Palace Grand, 275 Della Court.
The theme is "Mirror, Mirror On the Wall" and will feature an array of clothing from sophisticated jeans to semi-formal attire. The event will include a luncheon, entertainment and giveaways.
Funds raised will benefit Hernando-Pasco Hospice's patient care programs. The Black Swan Spa in Spring Hill is an event sponsor.
Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at Fine Lines, 1361 Kass Circle, or by calling the boutique at 666-8843.
BROOKSVILLE
Sign up to play in slow pitch tourney
The city of Brooksville Recreation Department will host a men's Slow Pitch Tournament on Jan. 18 and 19 at the adult fields next to the Jerome Brown Community Center, 99 Jerome Brown Place.
The cost is $30 per player. The deadline to enter a team is 6 p.m. Jan. 11.
The event is a fundraiser, with proceeds going toward Summer Camp 4 Kids sponsorships. For information, call 544-5498.

Check out fashions, have lunch with Ladies
The Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Council 11317, will host a fashion show and luncheon at 11 a.m. Jan. 18 in the St. Joan of Arc parish hall, 13485 Spring Hill Drive.
Fashions will be provided by Jeannine Rollins of Weekenders. The lunch menu includes fruit cocktail, chicken piccata, vegetable medley, scalloped potatoes, cream puff and coffee or tea.
Tables seat eight. Tickets are $12 per person and can be purchased at the parish office or by calling Dorothy at 686-7979 or Carol at 686-4030.
