Board to meet on new student assignment plan

The Pinellas County School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the district administration building, 301 Fourth St. SW, Largo. This is a special meeting on the proposed new student assignment plan. There will be a discussion on the plan during a workshop at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.

During the meeting, citizens can speak about any item on the agenda not involving a hearing on employee discipline by registering before the item is introduced. There is no public input at workshop sessions.

The workshop and special board meeting will be televised at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, at midnight Friday and at 8 a.m. Saturday for one week after the Tuesday's meeting date.

City Fire and Rescue honors 2 paramedics

Two St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue employees were recognized as the city's paramedics of the year at Thursday's City Council meeting.

David Nasworthy, a 23-year veteran and a second-generation firefighter/paramedic, was honored with the Bert Smith award for treating "his patients like family."

David Kadau, a five-year veteran and former combat medic with the Florida National Guard, was honored for understanding "the importance of customer service," according to the department.
