Navy Seaman Recruit Jeffrey P. Morris recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Morris completed training that emphasized physical fitness and included classroom study, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. Morris also participated in "Battle Stations," an exercise that gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. Morris is the son of April L. Aponte of Palm Harbor and Jeffery D. Morris of Seminole. He is a 2007 graduate of East Lake High School. * * * Coast Guard Seaman Christina C. Calello recently graduated from the Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J. During the eight-week training program, Calello completed a training curriculum consisting of academics and instruction on water safety and survival, seamanship skills, first aid, firefighting, marksmanship, drug and alcohol awareness, civil rights training, and how to prevent sexual harassment. A major emphasis is also placed on physical fitness, health and wellness. Calello also received instruction on the Coast Guard's core values - honor, respect and devotion to duty - and how to apply them in military performance and personal conduct. She is the daughter of Jeanine D. and Michael Calello of Clearwater. * * * Army Pvt. Michael Butler graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. During nine weeks of training, Butler studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Butler is the son of Patricia Foreman of Clearwater and is a 2006 graduate of Clearwater High School. * * * Navy Seaman Recruit Dino V. Geracci recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Geracci completed training that emphasized physical fitness and included classroom study, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. Geracci also participated in "Battle Stations," an exercise that gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. He is the son of Christine L. Clogston of Clearwater and is a 2002 graduate of Pinellas Park High School. * * * Matthew J. Correa has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash., and has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army. The primary focus of the 33-day training course is to develop and evaluate each cadet's officer potential by exercising his or her intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and physical stamina. The cadet command assesses each cadet's performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism while attending the course. Cadets in their junior and senior year of college must complete the leadership development course. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program, and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, National Guard or reserves. Correa is the son of Dick L. and Sue D. Correa of Largo. He graduated from a home school program in 1998.
