Restaurant will tap desserts to help dogs, cats

GULFPORT Approaching its first anniversary, Elements Global Cuisine is giving January to the dogs. And cats. For a month, owners Catherine and Jose Luis Pawelek will donate $1 for every dessert sold to "Get Rescued ... In Gulfport," an effort formed in 2005 to bring together registered nonprofit animal rescue charities. On the business' actual anniversary, Jan. 5, Elements will host animal-rescue organizations and sponsors at a wine and hors d'oeuvres party. PETERSBURG Culinary Academy Awards set at Vinoy The Cordon d' Or, Gold Ribbon Academy of the Culinary Arts, will hold its 22nd annual Culinary Academy Awards at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort on Jan. 12 in the first public presentation of these awards. PETERSBURG Love affair with area results in salon, spa Lynn Holloway of the UK was introduced to Florida the hard way but fell in love and has decided to make it her home. Holloway first visited the state for treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1990. About 16 years later she bought Brown's Salon and Day Spa.
