Gulf View Square may get Panera cafe
By the Times staff
Published December 19, 2007
PORT RICHEY -- Panera Bread, the popular bakery and cafe chain, could be coming to Gulf View Square mall next year. Simon Properties, which owns the mall, has filed plans with Pasco County to build a 4,700-square-foot Panera onto the northern end of Linens-N-Things. The cafe would include an outdoor seating area. The project has not received final approval. A mall consultant says in documents that the restaurant will open in 2008. The mall also is planning to build a 7,000-square-foot restaurant on an outparcel closer to U.S. 19, but has not disclosed its identity. Missouri-based Panera offers artisan breads and a sandwich and salad menu with organic and all-natural ingredients. The company has a location in Trinity.
NEW PORT RICHEY 30 years for man in truck attack
Gary Lee Wilson Jr. plowed his pickup truck through the front of a bank in January 2006 in an attempt to kill his ex-girlfriend. He also slit his own throat. Bystanders tackled him as he tried to escape and asked him: Why? His reply: "I was in love." He agreed to spend 30 years in prison for that crime on Monday, and this may have been the reason why: to avoid a life sentence. Wilson, 30, pleaded no contest to three counts of attempted first-degree murder. Not only was his ex-girlfriend, Kelly Webster, inside the SunTrust branch on U.S. 19 south of Main Street, but so was her mother, Renee Webster, and grandmother, Linda Hodges. Mother and grandmother both suffered broken legs. Circuit Judge Thane Covert adjudicated Wilson guilty. Because of his prison record, the 29-year-old Wilson will have to serve his entire 30-year sentence.
