A Vietnam veteran has become the second Democrat to challenge state Sen. Mike Fasano in the 2008 election. Fred Taylor of New Port Richey filed Tuesday to run against Fasano, R-New Port Richey. Democrat Richard Skandera of Palm Harbor also is running in District 11, which includes parts of Pasco, Pinellas, Hernando and Citrus counties. Taylor, who received three Purple Hearts in the Army, announced that he is running to solve an "absence of leadership" on key issues like insurance and taxes. He aborted a bid for the U.S. House in the 2006 election.
Animal Services, staffer state's best
Pasco County Animal Services has been named the Florida Animal Control Association outstanding agency for 2007, and technician Troy Lamson has earned Animal Caretaker of the Year honors. The associaton gave out the awards at a conference last month, and the Pasco County Commissioners honored the agency and Lamson this week. Lamson, who joined the agency in 1995, has had perfect attendance since 2002.
