The Polish American Social Club will host a New Year's Day Dinner Dance Jan. 1 at the clubhouse, 7615 New Jersey Ave.

Doors open at 12:15 p.m. The dinner selection is prime rib or chicken cordon bleu, which will be served from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m. Music for dancing will be provided by the Music Blenders from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Chinsegut Nature Center is in need of volunteers

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which operates the Chinsegut Nature Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, will conduct a volunteer orientation session from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at the center, north of Brooksville.

Each Wednesday through April 23 after the orientation, a new topic will be presented to volunteers in training during a three- to four-hour session. Topics include ecology and mammal tracking, herpetology, birding, butterflies, natural plant communities, fire management, Chinsegut's cultural history, geomorphology of the area, map and compass usage and techniques of environmental education.

Volunteers present educational programs and help with the Chinsegut center's festivals, trail maintenance, nonnative plant control, general grounds maintenance, office staffing and other projects.

The nature center also hosts public workshops and evening talks, and is open for hiking, birding and other types of recreation from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Brochure lists classes for spring semester

Hernando County Schools' Adult and Community Education Department recently published its eight-page brochure highlighting the spring semester of classes.

The brochure gives a brief description of each class offered, along with the starting date, instructor and length of program.

Classes are divided into four categories: arts and leisure, computers and technology, exercise and fitness, and educational offerings.

The brochure also provides information on the Ready to Work Credentialing Program and GED testing services.

Brochures can be found at the Adult Education Office at Nature Coast Technical High School, 4057 California St., Brooksville, at Let's Eat on 14257 Powell Road, Spring Hill, and at any branch of the Hernando County Public Library System.

Polling places change for five precincts

Hernando County Supervisor of Elections Annie Williams has announced the following changes in polling places:

- Voters in Precincts 6 and 7 now vote at Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 200 Mt. Fair Ave., Brooksville.

- Voters in Precinct 16 now vote at Hernando County Shrine Club, 13400 Montour St., west of Brooksville.

- Voters in Precinct 23 now vote at Forest Oaks Lutheran Church, 8555 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill.

- Voters in Precinct 39 now vote at Spring Hill Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 235 Cobblestone Drive, Spring Hill.

Voters unsure of where their polling places are can call 754-4125 or visit the Web site at www.hernandovotes.com (select "Polls" on left side of page, then select "Find Your Polling Location").

Voters are also reminded that the deadline to register to vote or change party for the Presidential Preference Primary is 5 p.m. Dec. 31.

The Presidential Preference Primary will be Jan. 29.

Absentee ballot requests are now being accepted between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays; the deadline to request an absentee ballot is 5 p.m. Jan. 23.

Early voting will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, Jan. 14-26, and can be done at both election offices: 20 N Main St., Brooksville; and 7443 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill.
