Court clerk named to state advisory panel

Hernando County Clerk of the Circuit Court Karen Nicolai has been appointed to the Local Government Pool Advisory Committee, the Florida Association of Court Clerks has announced. The committee will help the State Board of Administration devise strategies for the fund.

Girl Scouts to host 'Drop and Shop'
The Spring Mermaids Girl Scout Senior Troop 989 of the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida will host a "Drop and Shop" from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Fellowship Community Church, 11250 Spring Hill Drive. Children ages 4-12 can be dropped off so parents can Christmas shop. The troop will provide games, activities, crafts and movies. Each child will be given two snacks. The cost is $20 per child. Give blood, get a chance to win Wii
LifeSouth Community Blood Center is giving a chance for a gift in scarce supply - a Wii game system - for those who will donate another gift in scarce supply - blood. Each person who donates blood through 3 p.m. Monday will be entered to win the Wii. To donate, you must be at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and show a valid photo ID. Plant nursery closes for holidays
Starting today, the Spring Hill Garden Club's plant nursery is closed for the holidays and will reopen Jan. 7. The nursery is at 1489 Parker Ave. and is typically open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays and Mondays. The adjacent Nature Coast Botanical Gardens will remain open daylight hours and celebrate its Holiday in the Gardens through early January. Votes for the best-decorated tree contest will be accepted through Monday. Call 683-9933.

The Home 4 the Holidays Pet Pageant will air on Hernando County Government Broadcasting, Bright House Ch. 622, at 6 p.m. today and Monday, 1 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday. The pageant features pets from Hernando County Animal Services, Humane Society of the Nature Coast and SPCA of Hernando County. A different channel was listed in Friday's Times.
