A robber with a bad cough held up the Fifth Third Bank at 705 Eighth Ave. SW Monday and may have tried to rob another bank, Largo police said.

About 9:40 a.m., a man in a blue winter coat, jeans, a black baseball hat and tan work boots walked into the bank with the jacket's hood pulled over his head.

He covered the rest of his face with his left hand and passed a note to the teller saying he was robbing the bank and had a gun.

Throughout the robbery, the thief was coughing, and after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, he ran away.

Just 10 minutes earlier, a man matching the same description walked into the Wachovia Bank at 2515 West Bay Drive. Upon entering, he was confronted by bank employees because they could not see his face. In response, he asked about the bank's hours, left and got into an older gray car.

Police described the robber as about 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall with a thin build and a latex glove on his right hand. Investigators said he is suspected of taking part in three other bank robberies in Largo over the past two months.
