Any time is a good time to win the lottery. But for Bruce Clark, the $2-million Florida Lottery Mega Money jackpot came just in time for Christmas. Clark, 56, purchased the winning quick pick Mega Money ticket at the Rally store at 1625 Main St. in Dunedin, lottery officials announced Friday. He chose the one-time, lump-sum payment option and will receive $1,360,246. The store received a $5,000 bonus incentive for selling the jackpot winning ticket, lottery officials said. Clark's winning numbers in the Dec. 14 drawing were 13-16-26-41 and the Megaball was 4. Clark could not be reached for comment Friday.

Three in the running for city

Three candidates will vie for two seats in Dunedin's city election on March 11. Qualifying ended this week, and the candidates who turned in the required number of signatures and paid the qualifying fee are:

- Incumbent Vice Mayor and Commissioner Deborah Kynes, 57. Prior to being elected to the commission in 1999, Kynes volunteered for years on behalf of the arts, baseball, code enforcement, historical, cultural and other community programs.

- Incumbent Commissioner Julie Ward Bujalski, 41, who grew up in Dunedin and has had a career as an economic forecaster, planner and product developer. She was elected in 2006.

- Arnold "Tony" Scruton, 65, a Dunedin resident for about seven years. Before that, he lived in Tarpon Springs for 20 years. He's a retired racehorse trainer and also used to sell Volkswagen parts. He's never held public office.

The top two vote-getters will be elected.

Police identify suspected burglar

Police on Friday identified the man they think broke into an off-duty police officer's home as Quentin Y. Washington, 21, of Hillsborough County. About 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, a burglar broke into Clearwater police Officer Eliad Glenn's house while Glenn was in the shower, police say. Glenn grabbed a gun and fired at the intruder, missing him. The burglar fled and Glenn fired a few more times at the getaway car. Police said Washington's fingerprint was found in a nearby house that was burglarized earlier that day. It is thought that Washington and an accomplice were going up the street Wednesday knocking on doors and stealing from houses where no one was home. He has outstanding warrants from Sumter and Hillsborough counties in addition to a Pinellas warrant for burglary. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-873-8477.
