Cold fronts: Weekend divers have been frustrated by cold fronts the past two weeks. The few divers that have been able to sneak offshore during the week have found visibility less than 15 feet, but ample hogfish and grouper in shallow water.
Speargun Hunter on TV: As winter settles in, outdoor water sports take a back seat to spectator sports. Very little diving and even less spearfishing gets shown on television. One notable exception is Speargun Hunter, the series that premiered on the Outdoor Channel in January. The series, spawned from an award-winning documentary of the same name by producer Robin Berg, will run a second season beginning the first week of January. Shows filmed earlier this year in Hawaii, California, Louisiana, North Carolina, Florida's Gulf Coast and Keys, will air on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. Freedive spearfishing will be joined this year by deep scuba spearfishing on oil rigs and wrecks in the Gulf of Mexico.
