Tax reform amendment topic of chamber lunch Hear some of the pros and cons about Florida's proposed Property Tax Reform Amendment at the Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce Business Luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 15 at Cypress Palms, 400 Lake Ave. State Reps. Jim Frishe, R-Indian Rocks Beach, and Janet Long, D-Seminole, will offer their thoughts on the proposal, which will be on the ballot in the Jan. 29 election. Amendment critics - including many state legislative leaders - argue it barely scratches the surface of property tax reform. They also contend it fails to sufficiently address commercial properties. The chamber's board of directors has agreed to remain neutral on the amendment, as have many business organizations throughout the state despite lobbying efforts by Gov. Charlie Crist. He is seeking financial contributions for a multimillion-dollar advertising campaign in support of the amendment. Admission to the luncheon is $10 in advance and $15 at the door for chamber members and $20 for nonmembers. To register, e-mail info@largochamber.org or call 584-2321. Join college/career fair at Largo High School The Largo chamber extends a call to businesses interested in participating in the Jan. 29 Largo High School College/Career Fair. It runs from 7:30 to 11:55 a.m. in the high school's Media Center on 410 Missouri Ave. The Business/Education Partnership Committee is presenting the program specifically targeting 11th and 12th graders. Its goal is to provide students with information about higher education and business opportunities in Pinellas County, what types of occupations are available and the levels of education required to do well in them. There is no cost to participate, only a commitment of time and willingness to educate students and hopefully plant a seed for a future employee. Participants should bring business displays and promotional materials. Space is limited and registration deadline is Jan. 23. To reserve space, e-mail Angela Murphy, Largo High School family and community liaison at murphya@pcsb.org or call at 588-3758, ext. 144 from 7 to 11:30 a.m. weekdays. Women in Business Forum & Expo is Feb. 6 The Chamber's first Women in Business Forum & Expo will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive. Businesses and organizations are invited to participate. Sponsorships are available ranging from $250 to $750. Exhibit spaces are $100. The event is aimed at female entrepreneurs, business professionals, opportunity seekers, work-at-home moms and women re-entering the work force. For information, visit the chamber Web site at www.largochamber.org or call 584-2321.
