The Sertoma Club presented Clearwater Police Department volunteer Doris Krause with the Service to Mankind Award on Dec. 6 at Carlouel Yacht Club. In October, the National Association of Citizens on Patrol named Krause the Citizen Patrol Volunteer of the Year.

Krause has been a member of the Police Department's Citizen Volunteer Program since November 2001, serving on park patrol, beach patrol and homeland security patrol. She is also a member of the quick response team, which assists with disasters, major crime scenes and other incidents as needed.

Krause is a 79-year-old retiree and a four-time cancer survivor.

Countryside Kiwanis Club recently hosted three separate Head Start Christmas parties for 175 children who received bags of toys and books, sang and enjoyed a visit from Santa Claus.

Countryside Kiwanis members helping Santa were Marion Spengler, George and Dixie Hardin, Stuart Harris, Mary Jo Schuurman, Elmer Luoma, Carol Thompson, guest Vernetha Walters from Synovus Bank, and president Dick Luce with Jen Luce. Member Jeff Hoy played his guitar while everyone sang Christmas songs.

The Clearwater Christian Women's Club luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at Cove Cay Country Club, 2612 Cove Cay Drive, Clearwater. Cost is $15. For reservations and free child care, call (727) 796-9684 or (727) 531-8846 by Jan. 4.

Women in Networking, a group of women looking to build their businesses through building friendships, has added a meeting in Largo and is looking for new members.

There are no membership dues, but attendance is required at one meeting per month.

WIN members recently raised more than $4,500 for the Resource Center for Women in Largo.

All women are welcome at the new Largo meeting, hosted by the Palms of Largo, 400 Lake Ave. E at East Bay Drive on the first Tuesday of each month. Lunch, including coffee and dessert, will be served for $10. RSVP is required.

Young aspiring artists will sing arias at the next luncheon meeting of the Pinellas Opera League at 11 a.m. Jan. 2 at Dunedin Country Club, 1050 Palm Blvd.

Luncheon meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month from September until June.
