PALM HARBOR

If your family, like many, could benefit from either better discipline or communication, an expert on the subjects will be signing books from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the new Starbucks at Curlew Road and U.S. 19. Dianne Couris works with parents and families to improve family relationships and change behavior patterns. She shows parents how their reactions can affect children's behavior and how to set house rules and expectations.

EAST LAKE

Work off holiday food during hike

After the holiday feasts, start with a short guided hike and then hit the longer trails. Staff of the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center, 3940 Keystone Road, will lead you on a walk of less than a mile from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, pointing out how the land has changed over time and the ecological repercussions of those changes. Wear closed-toed shoes and a hat and bring water. The hike is recommended for adults and children 6 or older and is free. To register, call (727) 453-6800.

Club luncheon will be magically funny

Watch some magic with friends. The Palm Harbor Newcomers Alumnae and Friends is offering a monthly luncheon at 11 a.m. Jan. 3 at East Lake Woodlands Country Club, 1005 East Lake Woodlands Parkway. Bob Klase will entertain with magic and humor. Cost is $16, guests welcome. Reservation deadline is Friday. Call (727) 784-3386.

OLDSMAR

Council meeting moved to Jan. 2
