TARPON SPRINGS - A pipe bomb was found at a scrap metal recycling business about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, according to officials.

While sorting through a pile of metal, an employee at Anclote Metal found what appeared to be a bomb, according to reports by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

The business alerted law enforcement. Hillsborough County's Sheriff's Office Bomb Disposal Team responded to the scene. About 15 employees had to be evacuated from the buildingat 806 Anclote Road. The bomb, which was rendered safe about 3:15 p.m., was included in a load of scrap metal dropped off at the site. It's unknown who dropped it off.

Officials declined to describe what the bomb looked like, but Sgt. Jim Bordner, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office, said it appeared to be a "crudely made homemade explosive device." Deputies continue to investigate the case.
