Senior athlete gets four top finishes and a record

Richard Lowery of Spring Hill set a high jump record and picked up four first-place finishes during the 2007 Florida Senior Games State Championships in early December.
Competing in the 75- to 79-year-old division, Lowery took first in the discus throw with a toss of 100-01; first in the javelin with a throw of 88-05 and first in the pole vault with a jump of 6 feet. In the high jump, he set a record with a 4-foot-6 jump. Lowery also took second in the shot put with a throw of 29-00.
Russ Adams of Land O'Lakes took second in the 65- to 69-year-old division of the high jump with a jump of 4 feet.
Adams also took sixth in the long jump with a jump of 11-08.50.
The track and field championships were held at South Fort Myers High School.
Reindeer romp: Javier Beuzeville finished first in the Lake Jovita 5K Reindeer Run on Dec. 15. Beuzeville finished the race in 16 minutes 48 seconds.
Top-20 finishers included: Tony Shelbourn 19:39, Will Plazewski (21:10), Robert Kniss (21:53), Monica Carpes (22:21), Wesley Wynn (22:28), Ryan Bernosky (22:53), Ed Watson (23:28), Brad Price (23:30), Matt Prowant (23:30), John Floyd (23:38), Bryan Frick (23:56), Melissa Tremmel (24:21), Frank Spicer (24:21), Abby Fagan (24:38), Will Valentine (24:40), Matthew Telese (24:44), Alonna Tedesco (24:46), Garett Willis (25:00), Aaron Aucoin (25:01).
Hall of Fame: Saint Leo University Department of Athletics will induct five standouts at its 2008 Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The event will be March 27 at the Saint Leo Student Community Center. The evening will feature a reception beginning at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and the induction ceremony.
The newest members of the Saint Leo Athletics Hall of Fame include Prep School's four-sport athlete William Sharp, former baseball standouts John Kozak and Trevor Hall, softball player Tracy Roy and current athletic director/former head men's soccer coach FrancisX. Reidy.

Carnival: Meet the Krush Football team at the Arby's on State Road 50 and Interstate 75 on Jan. 5. The mini carnival, which will feature children's activities, prizes and value deals, will run from noon to 3 p.m. at the Brooksville-Ridge Manor store.
Softball: The city of Brooksville Recreation Department will host a men's Slow Pitch Tournament Jan. 18 and 19 at the adult fields adjacent to the Jerome Brown Community Center, 99 Jerome Brown Place.
Cost is $30 per player. The deadline to enter a team is 6 p.m. on Jan. 11.
The event is a fundraiser, with proceeds going toward Summer Camp 4 Kids sponsorships.
