Council member: 'It's not the right place' for a liquor store

SOHO - The City Council denied a petition to open a liquor store next to the Marble Slab Creamery on 500 S Howard Ave. after neighbors, police and business owners spoke at a hearing Thursday in protest.

They said a liquor store would only augment alcohol-fueled problems from the surrounding nightlife. "We're trying to build a neighborhood. We like things like the ice cream store. We like the little pet store," said Courier City/Oscawana Resident Homeowner Association president Walter Crumbley.

Marwan Suliman will have to open his store somewhere else, the council unanimously voted.

Council member John Dingfelder told him, "It's not the right place."

Mr. Suliman...Why do you have to open a liquor store? Can't you think of a more productive type of business??
