Resurfacing means traffic delays

SPRING HILL
Hernando County Public Works Department announces that starting Monday, weather permitting, these roads will be microsurfaced: Landover Boulevard from Elgin Boulevard to Northcliffe Boulevard; Landover from Northcliffe to Mariner Boulevard; Landover from Mariner to Elgin; Landover from Elgin to Mariner; Coronado Drive from Linden Drive NE to Spring Hill Drive; Coronado from Spring Hill Drive (SE) to Linden; and Coronado from Spring Hill Drive (NW) to Linden.
Residents should expect one-way traffic and brief delays in those areas. Access to homes will be maintained. Questions concerning this project should be directed to Andy Palmer, Hernando County Engineering Division inspection supervisor, at 754-4062, ext. 17013.

Nature Center willing to train volunteers
Chinsegut Nature Center is in need of volunteers.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which operates the Chinsegut Nature Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, will conduct a volunteer orientation session from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at the center, north of Brooksville.
Each Wednesday through April 23 after the orientation, a new topic will be presented to volunteers in training during a three- to four-hour session. Topics include ecology and mammal tracking, herpetology, birding, butterflies, natural plant communities, fire management, Chinsegut's cultural history, geomorphology of the area, map and compass usage and techniques of environmental education.
Volunteers present educational programs and help with the Chinsegut center's festivals, trail maintenance, non-native plant control, general grounds maintenance, office staffing and other projects.
The nature center also hosts public workshops and evening talks, and is open for hiking, birding and other types of recreation from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Library will show the best way to eat worms
The Hernando County Public Library System will show the movie How to Eat Fried Worms at two locations:
- 2 p.m. Thursday, East Hernando Branch Library, 6457 Windmere Road, Ridge Manor West.
- 2 p.m. Jan. 4, Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill.
During the first day of fifth grade, 11-year-old Billy squares off against a bully and winds up accepting a dare of eating 10 worms in one day.
The 2006 film is rated PG and is based on the popular Thomas Rockwell book.
After the movie, children will make their own dirt cake with gummy worms. The movie is free, with popcorn provided. Children may bring a beverage in a covered container. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
