Address tussle is down to names
North Oaks and the county move closer to agreement.

TAMPA - A committee of condominium residents is moving closer to an agreement with Hillsborough County officials over what addresses to use on their homes.
Residents of North Oaks Condominiums, just south of Tampa Palms, had been at odds with the county since its 911 administration, which oversees the 911 call service, announced it would impose new addresses to make the units easier to find.
Condo owners argued the necessity of the change. They also didn't like the names the county chose.
Now they have a proposal, and county officials are making sure it represents the view throughout North Oaks.
"The only changes I can see are the names," said Julio Guzman, a land technician for the 911 office.
The committee recommended four new names to the county: Dream Oak Place, Crown Oaks Loop, Best Oak Lane and Entry Oak Drive.
Guzman said he's reserved the names in the event that the board approves the choices, but he's heard some opposition from other residents.
"I had one person e-mail me and say he liked Tumbleweed (one of the county choices) just fine," Guzman said. Until the condo association makes a decision on naming, Guzman said, there's no definite time line for the address change. "I'm just playing this one by ear."
A drawing of the committee's proposal is available online at blogs.tampabay.com/newtampa.

Condo owners are not upset about the necessity of the change as much as they are about the County's authority to claim sudden noncompliance with a 20 year old previously comliant statute.
