Mental health alliance topic of presentation

Linda McKinnon, president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Florida, will present a program at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hospice community service center, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd. She will focus on the state of the alliance in Florida and its legislative agenda, as well as an overview of the Central Florida Behavioral Health Network, where she is chief executive. Puppy preschool starts in new year

Get that Christmas puppy into preschool. Puppies between 9 and 18 weeks old and their owners can take part in early temperament and behavior training courses at the Highland Recreation Complex, 400 Highland Ave. NE. Each six-week course is 10 to 11 a.m.Saturdays. Courses are Jan. 12 to Feb. 16; Feb. 23 to March 29; and April 5 to May 10. Cost is $40 for Largo residents and $50 for nonresidents. DUNEDIN

Forum on property tax change impact

The Dunedin Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a forum on the proposed property tax amendment at 7 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Conmy Center at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 750 San Salvador Drive. Sen. Mike Fasano will explain the amendment in detail, outline how voters will be affected and answer questions. Chamber member Chris Giuliana will discuss how amendment changes will affect those who bought a home years ago and those who bought more recently. Information also will be available on the county Web site, where residents can enter their addresses to find out how the amendment will affect their taxes. The program is free and open to the public.

TARPON SPRINGS

Pavers on sale at new elementary

Construction of the $23-million Tarpon Springs Elementary School is under way and pavers, to be placed around the main flag pole, are available to sponsors. Up to three lines of 12 characters each can be engraved on the stones. Proceeds will go to buy tables and umbrellas for a reading garden in the atrium. Cost is $50 for business/community; $40 for alumni and $30 for students and families. For more information, call the school at (727) 943-5500.
