ST. PETE BEACH - The German bakery on Corey Avenue is being sold by owners Marina and Detlef Raddant after they were denied renewal of their investor visas in July.

News of the denial caused many loyal customers of the German Baker Boy to reach out to help the Raddants, who had been supplying fine baked goods and German comfort foods to beach residents for more than a decade.

"The only really good thing that came out of it was the amount of support that came from all those people," Marina Raddant said.

Without their investor visas, the Raddants were unable to continue running the business but will be able to stay in the United States.

After a six-month scramble to secure a visa that included reaching out to Rep. C.W. Bill Young, Detlef Raddant was able to secure a work visa and a new position.

He will continue to practice his craft in a management position at the Euro-Bake European bakery in St. Petersburg.
